Our artisans in El Tablon run a wonderful cooperative of women weavers who make beautiful fabrics that they then sew into various items to sell in the market locally as well as items that we purchase from them at Fair Trade prices that we sell on our website and other locations to raise funds for our various other programs in Guatemala. They have been leasing their current location for over 10 years and despite being wonderful tenants, the lease is no longer going to be renewed. The location holds all of their large floor looms and area for their backstrap weaving as well as being a gathering place to hold their weekly meetings and bible studies. We have land available to us to build them a place to call their own, where they will have ownership of the building and it will benefit the entire community. We have gotten estimates for building a permanent structure for them that will have space for 4 floor looms and everything they have now as well as windows, a bathroom, and a covered outdoor area to work in. Over 20 families are involved in this particular co-op, which in turn, assists about 80 people. Our artisans will work in conjunction with us to raise the $10,000 that is needed to build this much needed facility. We would love for you to donate and be a part of building progress in this community.
